This Balenciaga jacket features the trompe l’oeil layered effect that featured heavily in AW18, with a leather rider set atop a washed denim jacket and fleece zip-up. Only the parts of these jackets that create the visual layered effect are actually constructed—collars, small slivers of the front, different hem lengths.

The collars of all three “jackets” are grafted together, so when worn with the fleece front zipped the leather collar is forcibly popped, or when the lapels are snapped down, the fleece follows creating the impression of a shearling collar.

Despite the intricacies, the jacket remains incredibly wearable. Thanks to the trompe l’oeil construction the piece is never too stuffy or bulky. Instead, the slightly oversize cut and hefty weight help it sit off the body in a way that feels like armor.  The bull leather used is thick and substantial yet feels pliable and supple, with a beautifully detailed grain that creates tons of visual depth.

Finished with press stud lapel fastening, two zippered waist pockets, zippered chest pocket, single interior zippered pocket, and two front zipper closures.
